Due to the large number of asylum seekers in the US, asylum offices have been flooded with thousands of cases that remain unadjudicated due to the lack of manpower. Currently, the Los Angeles Asylum Office has over 35,000 cases that are pending with no interview. The Los Angeles Asylum Office is currently adjudcating cases that have been filed in 2011. An asylum seeker is expected to wait more than 2 years before his or her is adjudicated. During the pendency of this application, an asylum seeker is eligible and can apply to obtain his work authorization after 150 days from the receipt of his asylum application.
